This Wednesday, join Silverbacks IN SPACE!
Silverbacks Improv Theatre
has enjoyed presenting special concept shows such as Soap Operas,
Murder Mysteries, and Noirs. This October, the group will expand its
repertoire into Science Fiction. The group will improvise a one-act play
inspired by classic Science Fiction television, such as Star Trek, Red
Dwarf, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. No elements of the story will
be pre-scripted. With the audience’s suggestion, the improvisers will
come up with a never-before-seen space concept and love letter to the
genre. This is a must-see event for improvisation fans and Trekkies
alike!

Acting Unlimited, Inc. to hold A Black Box Affair gala to benefit Theatre 810
Downtown Lafayette, LA - On Sunday, November 23, 2014, Acting Unlimited, Inc. (AUI) will hold a gala to benefit Theatre 810, a black box community theatre space, located at 810 Jefferson Street, between The Juliet Hotel and Carpe Diem - Gelato & Espresso.
AUI opened Theatre 810 in late 2011. Since then, it has received a 2013 Downtown Award for being Downtown Lafayette’s Best Kept Secret and become a home to many other local theatre companies, such as Acadiana Repertory Theatre, The Tea Sippers, Silverbacks Improv Theatre, Wanderlust Theatre Company, and many more. AUI also hosts many workshops and children’s classes within the space.
This year, AUI purchased a new, modern lighting setup for Theatre 810. Since installing the new lights, the company has begun to update its facilities to meet the ever-evolving needs of the theatre community.
A Black Box Affair will include a cocktail hour featuring white and red sangria from Pamplona, a supper course provided by several local favorite restaurants, dessert and coffee by Carpe Diem, a silent auction, and an evening of entertainment by the local theatre companies that call Theatre 810 home.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased in person from AUI at Theatre 810 or online at ablackboxaffair.eventbrite.com. For more information, call (337)484-0172 or email theatre810@gmail.com.
AUI, founded by Gloria Breaux in 1989, has a mission that is two-fold: to present innovative theatrical experiences to audiences who may never have enjoyed a live theatrical performance, and to train actors, directors, designers and technicians to create theatre for their company, and enable them, in the future, to create theatre for other companies or for their own companies. AUI recruits children, teens and adults from all walks of life and all ethnic groups. More information about AUI can be found at actingunlimited.org.
AUI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization. If you’d like to support this cause, but cannot attend the gala, donations can be made via Paypal to theatre810@gmail.com.

Theatre 810 is getting work done!
A team of volunteers devoted a weekend of downtime in order to reorganize Theatre 810. |
Our team is currently working to make Theatre 810 a more inviting, convenient, and useful space for our patrons and visiting companies. Along with the newly purchased lighting, we've begun to revamp the lobby and dressing room areas to reflect the needs of performers and volunteers in our community.
Book Lovers: Fret Not! Our library of theatre related information is still intact! The book shelves have been moved into the office area and dressing room. Not only does this give us more room overall, but the shelves in the dressing room also help to dampen the sounds made by those changing between scenes.
Heaven Knows, we aren't nearly done! But, if you'd like to check out our progress so far, come see FLAMES, which will finish its run this weekend. Shows are Thursday the 23rd, Friday the 24th, and Saturday the 25th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15.

Louisiana Premiere of AUI's production of FLAMES, Stephen Dolginoff’s new mystery thriller musical, opens this Thursday
Lafayette, LA—Acting Unlimited will present the Louisiana premiere of Stephen Dolginoff’s FLAMES, a mystery thriller musical, opening Thursday, October 16th at Theatre 810 (810 Jefferson Street in downtown Lafayette). This small cast musical follows the relationships, past and present, between two men (one dead) and a woman.
One year ago, Edmond died in a horrible fire. He took with him the dreams of his fiancée, Meredith, the trust of his best friend, Eric, and the answers to the burning questions that still linger about his death and the terrible crime he committed. But on a stormy night at the cemetery where he rests, the secrets from his past will finally refuse to stay buried; and those he left behind will finally refuse to stay silent. In this original, suspense-filled musical thriller by the author/composer of Thrill Me, there are enough twists, turns and surprises to keep the audience guessing up until the final shocking moments.
The cast features three performers well known to Acadiana audiences—Rick Rowan, Rick Manuel and Michelle Colon. Vocal direction is provided by Dana Lenix Donell and musical direction and accompaniment is provided by Andrew Lee.
The show opens Thursday, October 16th at 7:30 pm at Theatre 810 and will run Thursday through Saturday for two weeks (October 16- 18 and 23-25). Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at https://
For more information about the show, please visit our website at www.actingunlimited.org or our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AUI/AURA.
